Farewell to Afghanistan. About love during wartime

Original title: „Abschied nach Afghanistan. Von der Liebe in Zeiten des Krieges“

The mission in Afghanistan for the soldiers and their partners means a temporary separation, waiting and uncertainty. Therefore, each foreign mission becomes a test for a relationship. A soldier, who comes back from Afghanistan traumatized, aggressive and cold, suddenly becomes a foreign person for his girlfriend or wife. This can become a reason for a crisis of even a very good relationship. How many soldier relationships split off due to foreign missions? The numbers say nothing, what matters are only the true stories.

In FOCUS TV’s report women of the soldiers speak for the first time about their feelings of loneliness, fear, isolation and powerlessness. Moreover, it is women who tell what happens if their men come back from missions (like Afghanistan) traumatized, changed or injured.

My contribution to the report

I transcribed the tapes and assisted the reporter in post-production work. I also took part in the approval of final material by the editor-in-chief.
